The Western Front

 

On both banks of the river Somme, in France, the British and French armies fought two battles against the German Empire.

The 1916 battle is notable for the importance of air power and the first use of the tank.

The 1918 battle begun as an overwhelming German offensive that was halted before Amiens.

 

The tour visits Beaumont-Hamel, Thiepval, Pozières, La Boiselle, Contalmaison, Longueval, Albert, Villers-Bretonneux, Péronne, St-Quentin.....
