The third day is a 40 km long ride in the fields of Flanders.
Essex Farm Cemetery is our first stop and we find the aid post where a memorial is dedicated to John McCrae, a Canadian doctor who wrote the poem “In Flanders Fields” in May 1915.
The Langemark German Military Cemetery with 44,061 burials makes a sharp contrast with the bright Commonwealth cemeteries.
The statue of the Brooding Soldier at Vancouver Corner is a stunning landmark on our way to Tyne Cot Cemetery, the largest Commonwealth Military Cemetery in the World.
From Crest Farm we ride to Tyne Cot, Passendale and push on to Polygon Wood before we visit Sanctuary Wood and Hill 62.
